PATA, the recognised authority on Asia Pacific travel and tourism, has reported an expansion of travel and tourism arrivals across the Asia Pacific region by 4.5% in the first quarter for 2006 compared to the same period last year.
This growth translates into nearly 3.5 million more arrivals for Asia Pacific destinations, year-on-year. The PATA’s ‘First Quarter 2006 Quarterly Statistical Report’ (‘QSR’) showed which Asia Pacific destinations had attracted the most increases in international visitor arrivals.
Each ‘QSR’ reports on statistics such as visitor arrivals by country of origin, outbound travel data, percentage changes over the same quarter of the previous year and an update of four years worth of monthly arrivals and departures.
One of the top destinations of growth in 2006 has been Thailand. “Thailand clearly bounced back from the post-tsunami declines it suffered in the first three months of 2005,” said PATA director-strategic intelligence centre John Koldowski.
